Flower butterfly
Judge's Choice Award
I've always been drawn to butterflies and nature, Seeing and remember that first butterfly in my backyard and how majestic it look it’s something that I will remember forever.
This piece is a silver gelatin darkroom print and printed using a 8x10 inch glass. The image itself was made with old dry flower pedals, finding and shaping flower pedals into a butterfly then captured using a medium format film camera.
This technique or process is made with liquid emulsion that is layer / coated into a the glass then its printed and develop in the darkroom.
Since the print is transparent, whenever a strong light source hits the glass it will project the image behind it.

Artist Statement
My passion with film photography has given me a new way to capture and create art in the darkroom and exploring, learning new techniques and alternative ways to print my work in the darkroom and give it a new way to see the photograph itself.
I love the process of old traditional printing, the experience of seeing a beautiful silver gelatin print rather than a inkjet print is truly remarkable and the reason why I keep doing it time and time again, I’ve spent many hours in the darkroom perfecting my craft and passion and pushing myself to new heights in what I can do with photography.
