Descent of the Eagle
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Inspiration: The power and freedom of the American bald eagle as it dominates its natural landscape inspired this work. I wanted to capture its commanding presence and the beauty of its strong wings in flight. The eagle is beloved to me, its strength and nobility are traits I hope to emulate in my own life.
Process: I carefully studied Pointillism in preparation for this piece. Layering thick, textured dabs of paint, I aimed to replicate the eagle's rugged feathers and intense gaze in the style made famous by Georges Seurat. The movement of water beneath is rendered with swift brushwork to reflect the dynamism of the scene.

Artist Statement
Growing up in China, where the focus was strictly on agriculture and manual labor, my passion for art was always looked down upon. My parents saw drawing as a waste of time, almost immoral, and every attempt I made at sketching was met with strong disapproval. Despite this, the urge to create never left me. It's been a little over a year since I've truly started to explore my passion for art, giving myself the permission I was never granted as a child. I've thrown myself into experimenting with different mediums and colors, finding joy in the diversity and challenge they bring. I'm particularly drawn to capturing the human form, intrigued by the richly varied and beautiful physiques and facial expressions that make each person unique. My journey into the art world might have started later than most, but I'm excited to see where this path takes me.
