Bumba Meu Boi
For this project, I created a Brazilian folklore-inspired mask out of cardboard, paper mache, joint compound, foil, styrofoam, ribbons, and lots of tape. My inspiration came from the Bumba Meu Boi festival in Brazil which celebrates the rebirth of a sacred bull as a form of social criticism. Lower-class Brazilians criticize those of higher social status through folkloric songs and dances. The colors I chose represent the flag colors of Paraiba, my home state in Brazil.
